saturday stats 2.2.13

happiest of saturdays to all of you. i am smack in the middle of my favorite kind of saturday. a little running, a little relaxing, a few meals with different friends, some baking and LOTS of peanut butter. in fact, this week has had that as a common thread - can't get enough of the stuff lately. how much, you ask? let's take a look at that and some of the other stats from my week.

2 - jars of peanut butter i killed this week. to be fair, not all of them were unopened at the beginning of the week. only one of them. i had been working my way through this mighty maple jar for a while and i am SAD to see it go. i'm not letting myself buy another until i deplete my supply of various butters (so many options, so little time) a little more but it went out with a bang because these overnight oats in a jar were awesome.

1 - number of days i got to wear a t-shirt to work this week. we had college t-shirt day yesterday and though i didn't go to notre dame, they're the college i always prefer to represent. don't get me wrong, i love my alma mater (william & mary, for those of you VA locals) but since graduating i care more about college football than where i actually went to college and notre dame has always been my team of choice when it comes to athletics. doesn't hurt that tex went there so i feel even better about reppin' the irish.

all of them - number of meals i ate this week that incorporated something spicy. seriously, i have been craving spicy things like woah lately and this week's jalapeƱo cheese stuffed burgers (topped with extra jalapeƱos) helped those spicy cravings. i also had a few spicy breakfast meals and snacks thrown in there as well.

4 - white potatoes i ate this week. i love sweet potatoes a lot but there's something so awesome about white potato wedges. if you've forgotten how awesome white potatoes are, i suggest you take yourself out to the store right now, wedge them, slop them around in a bowl of olive oil, salt, pepper and paprika and bake them at 425 for 40 minutes so you can recall their glory. if you want to really perfect them, flip them around about halfway through cooking.

17 - degrees it was during my 10 mile run with alex this morning. it's possible that when i saw this weather report on friday night i sent alex a text saying, "not sure if i can handle 17* lol" hoping she would say, "me neither, let's scrap it". instead she ignored my texts. in fact, she continued to ignore my texts until i said, "i'm at your place". i kind of though she might have been purposely ignoring me so that i had no choice but to show up for our run. this strategy was later confirmed by alex...she's a wily one. you know those runs that are mentally so hard? this was one of those runs - we both struggled majorly to finish it. but i will stand by the fact that whenever i successfully complete a workout that was mentally hard i feel even better about it afterwards. i'm feeling really proud of the run today, even if it wasn't our best.

26 - years it's been since i've made peanut butter cookies. yes, that would be my entire age. i really don't think i've ever made them before and i have no idea why because i love peanut butter cookies and they are so easy. it was while making these cookies that i killed my second jar of peanut butter for the week.

so it was a peanut buttery, cold and spicy week over here at heart, sole and cereal. how were your weeks? anyone have exciting plans for the night? i'm headed out to meet some friends for mexican and margaritas where i will undoubtedly consume even more spicy foods. if it ain't broke, right?

  2. This post is very peanut butter focused...and I LOVE it! I can never get enough peanut butter. That mighty maple peanut butter sounds really delicious. I will have to track some of that down the next time that I am at the grocery store :).

Yay for spicy foods. I cannot handle OVERLY spicy foods, but I am a big fan of spicy flavors being incorporated into as many meals as possible. Can you say, sriracha? I cannot seem to get enough of it!

  3. I love you for loving white potatoes. I know it sounds ridiculous, but in a [blog] world where everyone is all about the orange sweet ones, I love coming across someone who's willing to admit that the plain Jane white ones are just as good. Have you tried roasting them with rosemary? Quite heavenly as well. And you've been loving spicy food like I've been loving sweet food. I just can't seem to get enough and tonight will undoubtedly involve more sugar as I plan to do some test baking in the kitchen.

  5. I had a friend judge me this week when I told him I could crush a jar of peanut butter in a week.
he said "do you know how many calories that is?"
I said, "Yes. F*ck you." Then put a spoonful of PB in my mouth.

  6. Heck yes to all the peanut butter in this post! I love me some nut butters! Mmm...You know what, I haven't had a white potato in quite some time! I mean, I love both but I guess it's still a dumb ED thought to not eat white potatos. Such a silly food fear! Potatoes are delicious and nutritious!

  7. Ahhh so much peanut butter and so much love! I'm glad you pushed through your run this morning and feel good about it! I really need to build up the courage to head out tomorrow for my long run..

Also, I love white potatoes and seeing your food this week has made me crave wedges so badly!

  8. A friend of mine once told me that her jar of PB expired before she finished. Yes, my eyes nearly popped out of my head too. Well, then she met me. :) We don't have any fun flavours like you guys, but lately, my favourite afternoon/pre-workout snack has been a PB + cashew butter + sunflower seed butter and banana sandwich. Magical.
Also. On your white potato comment. I know for a fact that the next loaf of bread that I buy will be white bread. It's been nearly 15 years since I've had white bread. I'm going for it.
Annnnnd with the wind it'll be -10F in the morning when I run to work. Wish me luck!! Fleece lined pants and down vest it'll be, for sure!! (Yes, I am just that stubborn and refuse to pay $20 for a cab to work a four-hour shift. No way, Jose!!)
Hope you have a faaaaaabulous time tonight. I can only imagine how amazing your place must have smelled after all that baking today. yummmm.

  9. So much peanut butter in this post...I wholeheartedly approve. I just bought Cinnamon Raisin Swirl for the first time today...It's safe to say it won't be lasting too long. That stuff is amazing.

And I just made white potato wedges last night! I usually go with sweet, but really, white potatoes are awesome too.

  10. Mmm I wish there was such thing as maple flavoured soy nut butter!

And I love white potatoes too. I prefer sweet potatoes slightly more, but mini potatoes that are halved and tossed in olive oil, salt, oregano, rosemary and thyme are amazing!
