i feel like i should have a lot more airline points than i actually have given the amount of traveling i do. alas, as soon as i have enough for a flight i spend that award like it's going out of style and have to start all over again at zero. i accrue points based on my credit card bills at an alarming rate though. i need to slow down on my cash outflow...starting tomorrow, i swear i'll be better. anyway, this week's wiaw spans the southern east coast - from miami to fort lauderdale to virginia, following my travels yesterday. yet it remains completely uninspired. sorry about that. it isn't exactly the exciting return to wiaw that i was shooting for, but i figure the only way to get back into a habit is to just start doing it, so i'm back! thanks to jenn as always for hosting and head on over there to check out all the other posts which might have more exciting foods than what i was rocking yesterday...

breakfast {8:30} - my family and i got some snacks when we stopped at cvs before checking into our hotel on saturday night and i snagged these after reading about them on various blogs. what i didn't notice when i grabbed the box was that they were best if sold by october 12th. good news - belvitas don't go bad - just like twinkies. that might scare some people, but i just appreciated it when i ate them for snacks throughout the trip. this morning i had a pack for breakfast before we ran out the door to get to the airport because i possibly did not leave myself enough time to go to the hotel's continental breakfast. i won't buy them again because they're not filling enough for breakfast and there are other snacks i like better, but if you tend to like lighter breakfasts these could be a good option for you.
lunch {11:30} - my flight was at 12:45 so i knew i wanted to grab some food before i got on the plane. i was going to eat on my flight but that belvita just didn't fill me up at all, so i ended up eating this sandwich right after i bought it. what makes this sandwich tropical? i'm not sure. i think i saw the name and thought it might have a mango chutney on it or something (which would have been delicious, btw), but alas it was just a plain turkey and cheddar sandwich. it was filling but not that good. i also had the BIGGEST red delicious apple alongside it which made great strides in making up for the sandwich. i've never had such a good piece of fruit from an airport kiosk. thanks, fort lauderdale. your sandwich labels might be misleading but your fruit hit the spot.
snack/workout {4:00} - i had a luna bar when i got home from the airport while waiting for my girl jess to come over for a training run. we hit the road for a 3.5 miler that ended up being closer to a 3.6 miler because we got mildly lost on a trail near my house. it's been so nice running with jess again because it forces me to run outside and i really do remember how much more i love it than running inside. it's tough with it getting dark so early though because i refuse to run by myself in the dark. you are welcome, mom.
dinner {7:30} - after getting some work done for school, (i actually have students today...AHHHH i'm not ready - i want break back!), i foraged around in my fridge and freezer to try to make some semblance of a meal for lunch today and dinner last night. i ended up going with an amy's gluten free bean and cheese burrito for dinner which i got using a coupon from this chica because she's a saint and gives me things. i'm not going to lie - glad i am not forced to be gluten free because i didn't love the brown rice tortilla, but i liked the filling a lot. i topped it with some of my fave chili lime yogurt dip, cholula and cilantro and served it alongside some of my frozen omelet vegetable mix of bell peppers and mushrooms. i cooked the peppers and shrooms with cayenne and cumin and they were glorious.
dessert {9:30} - killing this vanilla almond special k makes me sad. good thing i'm going grocery shopping tomorrow.
so it seems like there was a common theme in my eats yesterday. it was all fine but nothing super tasty. this proves to me that though i know for some people "food as fuel" works just fine - you know, eating simply because your body needs food and therefore you eat to give it fuel - i like to thoroughly enjoy what i eat. it's not simply fuel to me, and i'm okay with that. food makes me happy and luckily sometimes that food happens to be healthy.
<3

My dad really likes the almond special K so we actually have a ton of that stocked in our house and I've been trying that a lot. I actually blogged about this today that not every food is going to be tasty but if it serves it's purpose then it's all good!
ReplyDeleteyeah - it's not like i thought i'd have an absolutely spectacular day of eating since i was at the airport, but i hate not enjoying food because there is so much food out there that i do love. ah well, today's a new day.
DeleteLove love love how you ended this, molly! Seriously...I'm the same way about wanting to enjoy what I'm eating and get incredibly frustrated when I don't...interesting coming from me considering my recent food history, I know, but there it is haha...and yay for grocery shopping! you totally have me craving special k again, though, so I'm stopping at a non trader joes store this weekend to grab my love...the chocolate ;)
ReplyDeletethanks girl! i am glad i've got the craving going for other people - maybe we can split a box when you're down here :)
DeleteI think I'm the opposite to the food as fuel. I run to eat what I like. I don't like a lot of things, but the things I do like, I like A LOT. So I totallyyyyyy get where you're coming from on that one. I don't run after dark either. It freaks me out and my mom has a 3:45pm curfew for me in the winter. #lame
ReplyDeletehaha that's safe though! tex got really nervous the other day because i told him i was going for a run and trying to beat the sunset so he told me to wear all the neon i owned :)
DeleteI got a free package of those breakfast cookies/ wafers/ whatchamacallits from the gym a while back but they remain sitting in my cupboard... And I haven't tried them yet because of exactly what you said, they're not gonna fill me up and we've got tastier snacks, like peanut butter or peppermint stick Luna bars :P
ReplyDeleteyeah you can toss them lol. i definitely would rather have a luna bar. maybe even a luna bar dipped in pb.
DeleteI'm with- I like to enjoy what I eat too. Otherwise, it's just not worth it to me!
ReplyDeleteexactly! and it's not like i am like, "oh well if it's not delicious i won't eat" - obviously i know i need to eat so i do it but i'd rather have awesome food than food that is just blah.
Deletewell yay for some fun from Alex - would you guess I have another one for you... oh yes I do. SATURDAYYYY I will be honest, those digestive cookies remind me of old people. just an observation
ReplyDeleteohhhh yesssss. super pumped. and hahaha i agree on the old people thing - i was just bored of fiber one granola bars which were the only other real option at the cvs. should have just gone with candy.
DeleteVanilla Almond Special K is SO good. We used to have that around the house when I, you know, still lived at my parents house. Haha I was going to say "when I was growing up" but that's not exactly true, because it's not like we had it my entire childhood, and I clearly don't want to mislead you. I'm getting rambly. Anyway. Vanilla Almond Special K = bomb.
ReplyDeleteI totally would've bought a sandwich called "Tropical Turkey" as well, and I was super stoked to hear what kind of tropical goodness they put in there, so I can only imagine your disappointment at the lack of tropicality. I would not have been pleased.
glad i'm not alone on the special k vanilla almond. i legitimately was sad when the box came to an end but i have too many other options to warrant buying a new one quite yet. bummer.
DeleteCereal is always the best way to end a busy, busy day. I definitely want break back too. Where did the time go?!
ReplyDeleteI was at Target the other day and thought of you...have you seen the new Special K cereal? I think it's strawberry chocolate or rasberry chocolate? I think you should try it....just saying :) Totally random, but did you feel awkward eating that apple on the plane? The last time I ate an apple on the plane I got crazy stares because I guess I was being loud...I'll just assume they were staring because they were jealous I had food haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm running out of milk and need it to last until Saturday, which means that my evening bowl of cereal in bed is in Jeopardy. Gasp! I know, I know ... so sad. Thought you might be able to sympathize. ;)
ReplyDeleteChocolate dipped coconut bars are my favorite Luna bars!
ReplyDeleteEating healthy when you are traveling can be such a challenge. It looks like you did a really good job! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your last statement of this post. Perfectly said!.... and is it sad that I kind of teared up when you mentioned them? Ha Ha
